The King of Pop always at the top

This major exhibition initiated by the National Portrait Gallery in London aims to highlight Michael Jackson’s influence on contemporary art. Michael Jackson: On the Wall will reveal how he has become, since Andy Warhol first used his image in 1982, the most represented cultural figure in the world by the most renowned contemporary artists. His immense career and international fame have made him a legendary figure. The tour presents the diverse works of some forty artists questioning the representation of this myth.

This exhibition explores the cultural impact of Michael Jackson’s personality and work in the field of contemporary art from the 1980s to the present.

Michael Jackson is one of the most influential cultural figures of the 20th century, and his legacy continues into the 21st century. While it has always been considered a reference in the world of music, video clips, dance and fashion, its impact on contemporary art has never been addressed and has never been the subject of an international exhibition like this one.

His influence and fame continue unabated, and the issues he has raised as a social phenomenon, particularly in terms of identity, race and fame, are still relevant.

His songs, choreographies and video clips reflect Michael Jackson’s extraordinary artistic destiny, an inspiration to many artists: Andy Warhol, Lorraine O’Grady, Isaac Julien… Discover the work and personality of the « king of pop » through their works!
