Martinique honours Father Pinchon

The Musée du Père Pinchon opened its doors a few weeks ago in Fort-de-France. A museum entirely dedicated to Robert Pinchon, a pioneer of biodiversity, who devoted his life to theology, philosophy and the natural sciences. The space houses its large archaeological, botanical and ornithological collections. A set of nearly 10,000 pieces of books, butterflies, birds and other items.

This new museum aims to raise awareness of the extraordinary variety of flora and fauna in Martinique.

Robert Pinchon, a member of the community of the Fathers of the Holy Spirit was born on September 10, 1913 in Seine et Marne (France). He has dedicated his life to theology, philosophy and the natural sciences.

He arrived in Martinique in 1945 and remained there for 35 years until his death on 16 April 1980, at the age of 67. Professor of natural sciences at the College Seminary, he opened up the immense world of knowledge to the young people for whom he was in charge, as well as to the many Martinican people who helped him in his research.
