Asia does not only offer souvenir shops for tourists.
Many countries now have fabulous museums but also exhibitions that bring together local and international signatures. It’s another way to travel and discover wonders.
La Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB) is open
The BAB will run from 19 October 2018 to 3 February 2019. This biennial will be a first in Bangkok. Artists, art lovers, writers and the media gather in the capital of the kingdom for creative encounters.
The BAB’s mission is to involve the Thai public, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and foreign galleries or collectors.
A Foundation behind the BAB
The Foundation has been in existence since 2017, and works with several missions including supporting and producing relevant artistic and creative projects. It aims to develop leading artistic activities that make Bangkok a destination of choice for contemporary art. She plans to organize contemporary art experiences for various audiences, such as conferences, workshops, guided tours and publications. It aims to revitalize and enrich Bangkok’s areas with artistic walks. It also wants to improve working relations with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, government and business.
Artists from 33 countries will explore the theme « Beyond happiness »
75 artists will be featured in this year’s inaugural edition. Our artists will seek to interpret and capture different variants and intensities, » said Professor Apinan Poshyananda, Executive Director and Artistic Director of the Bangkok Art Biennale.
Artists exhibit everywhere in Bangkok
The international exhibition of contemporary art will take place in various famous sites in the city. Including along the river « Chao Phraya », in famous temples such as « Wat Pho, Wat Arun and Wat Prayoon ».
Finally, artists will exhibit in historic architectural sites and iconic monuments such as the East Asiatic Company, the Hotel Oriental, the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre and the Bank of Thailand Training Centre. Works can also be admired in beautiful shopping centres such as Central World, Siam Paragon, Siam Discovery. And even the Alliance française will have its own exhibition.
Works by famous or unknown artists
Works by Jean Michel Basquiat (US), Paolo Canevari (Italy), Kray Chen (Singapore), Choi Jeong Hwa (Korea), Sara Favriau (France), Guari Gill (India), Andrew Stahl (United Kingdom), Joscha Steffens (Germany), Angki Purbandono (Indonesia) or Yan Pei Ming (China) are included. Of course, many Thai artists will be present. Unfortunately, it is difficult to mention them all!

The 12th edition of AEM 2018 was an exciting artistic event. This edition featured an exhibition area for renowned galleries, as well as a Japanese pavilion housing the largest representation of Japanese artists.
This event took place from October 12-14, Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Some 65 exhibitors with 1,500 works of art (paintings, sculptures, photographs) in various styles, expressions and media, representing a wide range of artists from 22 countries. You shouldn’t miss it next year!
