4 million Lithuanians meet for a flash mob worldwide

Lithuanians will sing their national anthem around the world at the same time this Friday, to celebrate together the centenary of the country’s independence…

This Friday, July 6, at 20h Paris time, Lithuanians around the world will cease all activity. On July 6 at 9pm precisely (Lithuania time – UTC+3), despite the kilometres that separate them, the borders and time zones, they will sing their national anthem, the « Patriotic Song », at the same time all over the world.

It is in this unprecedented way that Lithuania, with an estimated one-third of its population living in various corners of the planet, intends to celebrate the centenary of its recovery.

This event aims to make Lithuanians serious candidates for the title of the most united people. An estimated 2.8 million Lithuanians live in Lithuania and 1.2 million abroad – mainly in Great Britain, Norway, Denmark, the United States, Canada, Argentina, Brazil and Australia.

President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė sent her own invitation to all Lithuanians and their friends to celebrate Lithuania’s centenary by singing her anthem.

Other Lithuanian personalities and activists join them on social networks, such as the American actress of Lithuanian origin Ruta Lee, the artist Ray Bartkus (living in New York), or the basketball player of NBA Jonas Valančiūnas.

Various Lithuanian companies, organizations and media, also united their voices to invite everyone to this celebration, and thus bring together as many Lithuanians as possible for an unprecedented event.
