Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, a member of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 30 hotel brands, announces the opening of the Sheraton Nouakchott, marking Marriott International’s entry into a new territory: Mauritania. The Sheraton Nouakchott unveils the brand’s modernized design concept in the heart of the Mauritanian capital.
Ideally located near iconic sites such as the Capital Market and the National Museum of Mauritania, the beaches of Nouakchott and the fishing port, and a short distance from the desert, the Sheraton Nouakchott, opening in November 2025, is the perfect starting point for exploring the destination.
A Deeply Local Inspiration
Inspired by the iconic sites along the ancient trans-Saharan trade route, the hotel’s design seamlessly blends regional heritage with contemporary elegance.
The circular ceiling of the Feast restaurant is inspired by the Richat Structure, also known as the Eye of Africa, a spectacular geological formation 40 kilometers in diameter located on the Adrar Plateau, famous for its concentric rings and mysterious beauty.
“We are extremely pleased to introduce Marriott International to Mauritania with the opening of the Sheraton Nouakchott, the first international hotel in the country.
This major milestone not only marks a significant expansion of our global presence, but also underscores our commitment to delivering exceptional hotel experiences in emerging markets,” said Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President, Premium & Select Brands, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International.
