The anger of tourists in Mykonos

Every year, we can witness scams against tourists, whether in France, Italy, Spain… In general, restaurateurs are the champions in this field. Unfortunately, the authorities are acting slowly… In Greece, abuses seem to be repressed… but for how long??
France is not spared !
The first tourist country in the world (according to official figures), is surely one of the champions of cheating. Fortunately, not all tourists know this, but many restaurants cook almost nothing. They buy industrial food in large quantities. All that remains is to reheat and you will be served the « homemade dish ». There are many labels for « homemade » but how many controls each year? Synhorcat, the hotel and restaurant owners’ union, announced a few years ago that « 31% of restaurant owners admit to using frozen products « .
We are sure that the figure must have soared, especially in industrial dishes ! We have even heard that some restaurateurs will shop at major discounters such as Lidl.
A wave of complaints is coming down on Mykonos
The number of complaints from tourists has led the Greek Ministry of Finance to order more than 50,000 searches of establishments in Mykonos.
The officials acted clandestinely in order to demonstrate the offences. As a result, a dozen restaurants were closed.
Additions that are difficult to digest
A restaurant located on the beach of Platis Gialos on the island of Mykonos, has made a name for itself.
An American tourist who went to dinner in May 2019 posted on the « Tripadvisor » website the exorbitant invoice of €836.20 for 6 portions of squid, 6 beers, 3 salads and a tomato juice at the great price of €18.
Another tourist had to pay 136 euros for two glasses of « prosecco » in another restaurant.
The truth is that many tourists affected by this price escalation have stated that in places where they have been swindled, they are not allowed to ask for a menu.
So they had to ask for the dishes without knowing their prices. Restaurants, on the other hand, defend themselves by making sure that customers know the costs of the dishes.
Even beach-goers can ruin your holiday
Tourists reported that they were promised free sun loungers if they asked for a drink at the restaurant. However, the prices were again exorbitant: two glasses of champagne cost 135 euros. What a great profitability!
