The TUI Group publishes its latest sustainability report : « Better Holidays, Better World »

The TUI Group, the world leader in tourism, has published its 2018 Sustainable Development Report. He reviewed the progress made since the launch of the Better Holidays, Better World* sustainable development strategy four years ago. This strategy, which sets targets for 2020, includes four pillars on which TUI is building to advance sustainable tourism in its activities, throughout its value chain and in the tourism sector in general, but also in the communities in which it operates.

Since 2015, TUI has provided 29 million « greener and fairer » stays. This figure represents the number of guests staying in hotels certified by the World Council for Sustainable Tourism.

In 2018, TUI sold 9.2 million « greener and fairer » stays (a 12% increase over the previous year).

The Group is therefore on track to achieve the target of 10 million stays per year by 2020.

A study conducted by TUI shows that certified hotels are more environmentally friendly than others : on average, they emit 10 % less CO2, waste production and water consumption per night are reduced by 24 % and 19 % respectively, they use more green energy (up to 23 %) and customers are more satisfied. In total, 81 % of TUI hotels and holiday clubs were certified in 2018.

New commitment to reduce plastic consumption by 2020

By the end of 2018, the TUI Group had already removed 140 million single-use plastic objects.

To contribute to global efforts to reduce plastic waste, TUI aims to increase this figure to 250 million by the end of 2020.

This will be achieved by, among other things, removing 112 million single-use plastic objects from our hotels, issuing guidelines on plastic waste reduction in our hotels and implementing an ambitious waste reduction programme on TUI cruise ships.
