The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has estimated that Thailand could welcome 37.5 million foreign tourists this year.
The tourism sector is estimated to account for about 11% of Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The TAT also forecasts that the tourism sector would serve 40 million visitors in 2019 and bring in 3,400 billion baht, an increase of 10% compared to 2018.
Last year, the number of tourists from America reached 1.5 million, including 1 million from the United States and 250,000 from Canada.
The TAT hopes to see arrivals from America increase by 10%.
China is considered the most promising market for Thailand. Currently, only 10% of the Chinese population holds a passport, or 140 million people. Thailand offers tourism services for families, married couples, Chinese sportsmen and women and organizes numerous tourism promotion activities in Chinese cities to attract new visitors.
