If there is one place that has a solid reputation in massage, it is Bangkok. One might think that half of the population is employed in this corporation because the number of massage centres must far exceed the number of cafés in the Thai capital. There are excellent and less good ones. Let’s acknowledge that some of Bangkok’s major hotels now have a very honourable offer.
The Oriental Mandarin Oriental Spa Bangkok
This establishment deserves to be visited even if you do not stay there.
The Mandarin Oriental houses one of the most incredible spas in the city. Getting there is half the fun. The hotel’s facilities include a restaurant, a gym and a spa in a century-old teak house.
As soon as you arrive, you will be greeted by a charming staff who will exchange your shoes for slippers and lead you through the wooden entrance leading to the dressing room.
Put on a silky dress and meet your therapist in the treatment room. Treatments range from facials, Ayurvedic treatments to a range of Thai, Balinese and Swedish massages.
Le Panpuri Organic Spa at Park Hyatt Bangkok
This Bangkok hotel is an oasis for design lovers.
The exterior already has a superb architecture. Seen from the roof, the hotel and the adjacent shopping centre (Central Embassy) form a three-dimensional figure eight, a lucky number in Chinese culture.
The exterior façade is covered with aluminium tiles to create a shimmering pattern as in traditional Thai architecture.
For the first Park Hyatt Hotel in Thailand, the New York design firm » Yabu Pushelberg » was commissioned to create a sophisticated private residence and sanctuary reflecting the rich Thai culture. The result is a bright, calm and relaxing space, ideal to escape the city below. The palette of beige, mustard and white colours soothes the eyes, while subtle Thai patterns such as the raised lotus in the bathroom provide well-being.
Le » Panpuri Organic Spa » employs talented therapists who perform facial and soothing massages in spacious rooms and suites with shower, bathroom and dressing room.
The post-therapeutic relaxation area overlooks the city behind the soundproof glass enclosures on the 11th floor. The subtle decoration in beige marble with fresh floral accents contributes to the relaxing atmosphere. Let yourself be tempted by the » Equilibrium » treatment with hot oil and Thai herbal compress. We start with a foot bath and a scrub. Between massages, the therapist applies warm herbs, such as ginger and lemongrass. The effect is guaranteed on your muscles.
Opium Spa au Siam
Located in one of the city’s most remarkable hotels, the Opium Spa reflects the elegant art deco sensibility of the entire establishment.
Le Siam, has been decorated with antiques by the owner. Pieces grouped by theme as well as small surprises for customers to discover, including spa. Each spa appointment begins with a fresh towel with lemongrass scent and a cup of tea in the cozy waiting room.
Therapists use Sodashi products for facials and massages. Sodashi is a Sanskrit word meaning « integrity, purity and brightness ». A whole program to summarize that there are no chemicals in the products.
A wellness extension to the spa menu includes private sessions of meditation, yoga, tai chi and even Muay Thai. As a lover of this sport, the recommended treatment will be the Muay Thai massage.
Based on the ancient art of kickboxing, this massage will attack the muscles, but it is actually much softer than expected. However, it is always intended to free the deepest knots with firm pressures.
