Siyam World Maldives, a resort in the Lifestyle Collection of the Sun Siyam Resorts group, has reached a significant milestone in sustainability with the successful commissioning of the first phase of its solar photovoltaic (PV) system. This system currently generates 300 kW of renewable energy, as part of a comprehensive solar program on the island that is expected to reach a total capacity of 2.7 MW.
This installation is part of Sun Siyam’s broader renewable energy strategy, deployed within the framework of the Sun Siyam Care sustainability program, which aims to significantly reduce reliance on diesel-powered systems within its portfolio.
Now partially operational, the system allows Siyam World Maldives to produce approximately 1,080 kWh of clean energy per day, reducing diesel consumption by about 280 liters daily and thus decreasing the island’s carbon footprint.
The solar program contributes to several key pillars of the Sun Siyam Care sustainability initiative, including the transition to renewable energy, improved resource efficiency, and the development of local skills.
At the group level, these initiatives are expected to generate nearly six million kWh of renewable energy per year, while also promoting the training of technical teams in the management and maintenance of solar systems.
Siyam World Maldives has already taken significant steps in its sustainability journey.
In 2025, the resort notably inaugurated its Plastic Upcycling Center, which aims to transform plastic waste into sustainable materials used to manufacture furniture and other functional equipment, thus helping to reduce waste while giving materials a second life.
