Anantara opens its first hotel in Mauritius
March 5th, 2019 Thelma Young No Comment Hotels and Lodging
The Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas group is entering the Mauritian luxury hotel market, with the opening of an establishment on the southeast coast of the island in the fall of 2019. The new hotel, which is part of a local coastal development project, will be located next door to Blue Bay Marine Park, a protected marine park with crystal clear waters whose coral reefs, accessible only a few metres from the white sandy beaches, are one of Mauritius’ most famous diving and snorkelling spots. Easy for travellers to access, the hotel will be located only 15 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
Exceptional services
The Anantara Mauritius Resort will offer 164 rooms and suites as soon as it opens. Its accommodation offer will be enhanced in 2020 by the construction of eight luxury villas with two or four bedrooms and private swimming pool. The establishment’s guests will also have at their disposal several bars and restaurants: a first restaurant specialising in grilled meats and seafood served on the terrace or on the beach, the Sea.Fire.Salt, another open all day, a private dining room with wine cellar, a healthy à la carte café and two bars, one by the pool, the other with a view of the beach. This new Anantara address will also house a sports hall, an Anantara Signature Spa and a children’s club. The establishment’s guests will also enjoy a large 30-metre swimming pool, entirely treated with ozone.
The design and friendly atmosphere of the premises were designed by Australia’s award-winning Ground Kent Architects, in collaboration with Abacus Design’s Thai interior designers and the Mauritius-based Office of Global Architecture (OGA Ltd). The decoration and layout are inspired by the melting pot that has shaped the island’s history and culture, paying particular tribute to its rich architectural heritage and that of its capital Port Louis. The natural materials used in the design of the premises, most of which are of local origin, allow the various spaces to blend harmoniously into their environment. Influenced by colonial architecture, the general atmosphere evokes that of a tropical beach house that invites relaxation, while cultivating its resolutely modern style.
The subtle and sparing use of lighting, basalt and volcanic stones, driftwood, wavy curves and very neutral sand colours make the boundary between inside and outside disappear. Fabrics and works of art chosen for the rooms create a contrasting combination of orange, deep navy and royal yellow notes that recall the legendary sunsets, translucent waters and fine sand of Blue Bay, respectively.
An eco-responsible commitment
The gastronomic options offered by Anantara Mauritius Resort, which range from the generous traditional Creole cuisine to the most refined gourmet dishes, offer gourmets a unique culinary experience, combining European, Asian and African flavours. Most of the ingredients used are produced and grown locally in the island’s incredibly fertile soils. Fish and seafood, provided by the ocean, are here of an incomparable freshness.
In line with Anantara’s sustainable development commitments, this new hotel will use solar energy to heat the water in the rooms, reducing its consumption and impact on the environment. Other initiatives have been taken to make the facility as virtuous as possible, such as planting endemic flora in landscaping, reusing wastewater for irrigation and cleaning, and using recycled materials for furniture. Finally, the hotel’s bars and restaurants, which prefer organic products for their supply, will not offer any plastic straw to their customers.
