As part of its plastics reduction program, the 50 Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. fleet (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, TUI Cruises and Pullmantur) will sail, from 2019, without any plastic straws on board.
For one year now, RCL vessels have had a policy of « straws only on request ». This The programme will be developed from the beginning of 2019. Indeed, from now on, as soon as they claim it, the customers will receive a paper straw to avoid the use of plastic.
For their drinks, the company’s customers will be able to use wooden mixing sticks certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as well as bamboo spikes for snacks. These are the first measures resulting from RCL’s strategy to reduce plastic use.
After the straws, sticks and spikes, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd will concentrate on other plastics to single use such as food packaging, glass and plastic bags.
Full control of plastics will result in a complete ban on their use on board by 2020.
